Can you snack on good friday

Abstaining from meat and other indulgences during Lent is a penitential practice. On the Fridays of Lent, we remember the sacrifice of Christ on Good Friday and unite ourselves with that sacrifice through abstinence and prayer. I understand that Catholics ages 18 to 59 should fast on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, but what exactly are the rules for these fasts?

Fasting on these days means we can have only one full, meatless meal. Some food can be taken at the other regular meal times if necessary, but combined they should be less than a full meal. Liquids are allowed at any time, but no solid food should be consumed between meals. Are there exemptions other than for age from the requirement to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday?

Those that are excused from fast and abstinence outside the age limits include the physically or mentally ill including individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also excluded are pregnant or nursing women. In all cases, common sense should prevail, and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting. If you are Catholic or part of a Catholic family, you may be aware that the rules for meals are different around Lent. Lent is the 40 days following Ash Wednesday, and it's a time for fasting, prayer, and contemplation. The 40 days is a time to prepare for Easter and represents the time Jesus spent in the desert, praying and resisting the temptation of Satan.

Modern Catholics celebrate this time of year by surrendering something for 40 days, praying, attending mass and following special rules for food. Most adults give up snacking and generally eat only one main meal and two smaller meals during the day. During these days, it is not acceptable to eat lamb, chicken, beef, pork, ham, deer and most other meats. However, eggs, milk, fish, grains, and fruits and vegetables are all allowed. There are exceptions. Seafood Pasta in a Foil Package. You cook the seafood in a skillet and make a light tomato sauce, then throw it into heavy duty foil with al dente pasta and finish it in the oven.

Oh my heavens. How about an easy batch of Shrimp Tacos? Another great Good Friday fish option, whether for the family or for company. Coconut Curry Shrimp. Super easy, super flavorful…and super shrimpy! And one of my very favorites: Lemon Basil Shrimp Risotto. So lovely and citrusy and comforting. I love this one! Still other observers of Good Friday take the meatless route. Here are five of my favorites from that category.

Zucchini Noodles.
